Featured Photo Art VI of Smith Mesa on the west side of Zion Canyon Nation Park

On Monday March 10, 2008 I took this short 30 mile trip over Smith Mesa Road starting at Hurricane Mesa in Virgin Utah. Here the road climbs 3.5 miles up the side of Hurricane Mesa the site of a working rocket sled test track for a private company.

At the top of Hurricane Mesa I took the road to the right that continues up and over Smith Mesa. Going straight ahead brings you to a locked gate of the test track.

I found several ranch roads branching off along the way.

The views from this road are great in all directions but especially looking east towards the west side Zion Canyon National Park.

This is a dirt road that I wouldn't travel on in rain or snow without four wheel drive, and even then I'm not sure since it is only a single vehicle wide in many spots with steep drop offs on both sides.
